The State of the Order as of July 2002 )

The State of the Death Eaters as of July 2002 )

In 1999, the Ministry of Magic sought to fix Azkaban's overcrowding problem by releasing the Death Eaters one-by-one, attempting to reform them with Ministry controlled jobs, houses, and lives. Just three weeks into the Death Eater Reform Program, however, all their carefully laid plans went straight to hell. Gawain Robards, head of the Department of Corrections - and the one who had pushed the controversial Reform Program through the Wizengamot - released all of the Death Eaters from Azkaban without any of the carefully considered checks in place to ensure the public's safety. The killing's began again, rising to a fever pitch with the slaughter of over 100 students on the Hogwarts Express.

Three years later the Wizarding World is on the brink of full-out war; the Death Eaters have rebanded under the guidance of Rodolphus Lestrange, and they vow not to repeat the mistakes that Voldemort made in the prior wars. They remember the taste of victory, and they will not rest until the world is theirs once more. The Order is desperately recruiting and rebuilding, but will it be enough?

Welcome to 2002.

Hexed from Death Eaters

The first round of N.E.W.T. examinations begins tomorrow morning, with the class of 1999 undertaking their exams over the next two weeks.

As a reminder:

On May 16 the Hogwarts Express will take the 1999 class home.

On May 17, the Hogwarts Express will deliver the 1998 class to Hogwarts, where they will stay in their old house dorms for the following two weeks to undertake their exams. The 1998 class will sit their N.E.W.T. exams from May 18 - May 29.

All other year levels will proceed as usual and will return home on the Hogwarts Express with the 1998 class on May 30.

[Private to Order]

I would appreciate it if a few of you could ride on the Hogwarts express with the students on May 16, May 17 and May 30 to ensure their safety. I doubt anything will happen, but I am sure you will agree with me that it is better to be safe than sorry.

On June 1, I will be writing to you all with a schedule for Animagus training over the summer months. While the castle is empty it seems like a good time to get started. It will give you enough of a grounding to be able to continue at home while school is in session next year and we will have further classes next summer. However, I am more than happy to answer any questions you have at any time or to give practical instruction after Order meetings during the term.

Hexed to the Order

I must apologise for being so tardy with this entry. As you can imagine, organising a double lot of N.E.W.T's takes a considerable effort but I do believe we are ready for the influx of students.

With regard to Animagus lessons, I would like to open up the offer to those that you feel would not only benefit from such training but would also be able to handle such a terribly difficult piece of transfiguration. I would suggest that anyone with a Transfiguration N.E.W.T score lower than an E might find the process difficult and draining.

Please reply to let me know if you are interested, and also to nominate anyone you feel would be suitable. Please check with them first to ensure they are interested and willing.

Listed below are the books that I recommend you start reading. The Animagus process is slow and tedious in the beginning as it is mainly confined to theory, but you must have a solid foundation of theory before you can even attempt the magic itself.

Yes, there will be a test.

Also, don't waste your time trying to 'decide' what you will become. The animal chooses you, as you will discover in your reading.

An Update from Hogwarts

Students and Parents of current N.E.W.T. students,

I am writing to inform you of some changes to the N.E.W.T. program this year. As you are all aware, due to the disruption to last years exams, the 1998 class were unable to sit their N.E.W.T.s and will be taking those exams in May. This means that along with our 1999 class, we now have double the amount of students sitting those exams.

After much consideration, the following plan has been agreed upon by the school governors and myself:

The current 1999 class will sit their N.E.W.T. exams from May 4 - May 15.

This information will also be owled to all parents and students who do not own journals. If you have any questions or concerns about these changes, please do not hesitate to owl me here at Hogwarts.

Kind regards,

Headmistress M. McGonagall

Private to the Order

Hello all,

Kingsley suggested that I might want to use this book as a way to keep in touch with you all. Of course, I'm far too busy to sit and read everything that is written here, but it seems like a very effective tool for mass communication.

My reasons for writing tonight are simple. With this absurd program the Ministry is in place, it seems additional protection is necessary. I have given it a great deal of thought and would like to offer Animagus lessons to those of you who are interested. I have found my Animagus abilities to be quite useful over the years, particularly during the war.

If you are interested, please let me know here and we can get started as soon as possible.
